1. This, That, These and Those are called demonstrative pronouns and they are used to show the distance between the speaker and the noun.

We use This (Singular) and These (Plural) to refer to something that is near and we use That (Singular) and Those (Plural) to refer to something that is far.

A. Form the plural. Use These and Those.

(i) This is a big bus.                 These are big buses.

(ii) That is a red dress.             Those are red dresses.

(iii) This is my bag.                 These are my bags.

(iv) That is a brown fox.         Those are brown foxes.

(v) This is a blue potato.         These are blue potatoes.

B. Form the singular. Use This and That.

(i) These are my books.         This is my book.

(ii) Those are children.          That is a child.

(iii) These are our boxes.       This is my box.

(iv) Those are my oranges.    That is my orange.

(v) These are flowers.            This is a flower.

2. Decide if the sentences need a :
        Period (full stop) = .
        Exclamation mark = !
        Question mark = ?

Some sentences can have Two possible answers. Write both answers using a slash.

Example: (. / !) or (? / !)

(i) The boy run as fast as he could  . / !

(ii) I am having a fantastic day  . / !

(iii) Will you live now  ?

(iv) I have nothing to do today  .

(v) Thank you  . / !

(vi) You when will you study  ?

3. Combine each pair of sentences using a comma (,) and the word given in the brackets. 

(i) I want some cereal. The box is empty. (but)

        I want some cereal, but the box is empty. 

(ii) She did not go to the park. It was too late in the evening. (for) 

        She did not go to the park, for it it was too late in the evening. 

(iii) I really like chocolate cake. I am too full to eat more. (but) 

        I really like chocolate cake but I am too full to eat more. 

(iv) We can have rice for lunch. we can have noodles. (or)

        We can have rice for lunch, or we can have noodles. 

(v) They will go to the market. They will go to the park. (and)

        They will go to the market and they will go to the park. 

(vi) Priti finish the homework. We can go and play outside now. (so)

        Priti finished her homework, so we can go and play outside now.

4. Fill in the blanks using the Comparative form and Superlative form of the adjectives.

A. Write the comparative form of the adjectives.

1. Priya is  happier  (happy) than her sister.
2. Juhi is  taller  (tall) than Aman.
3. My hair is  longer  (long) than my sister's hair.
4. The  soonest  (soon), the  best  (good).  (This question is of superlative)
5. Rupa runs  faster  (fast) than all the other girls.
6. The sun is  brighter  (bright) than the moon.

B. Write the superlative form of the adjective. Don't forget to use "the" in front of the superlatives !

1. I am the  tallest  (tall) in the class.
2. Ujjain is one of the  oldest  (old) city in India.
3. North Pole is the  coldest  (cold) place on earth.
4. This is  the most expensive  (expensive) shirt I have ever bought.
5. New York is one of the  busiest  (busy) cities in the USA.
6. The Nile is  the longest  (long) river in the world.

C. Write the comparative or superlative form of the adjective.

1. My brother is  younger  (young) than me.
2. More  (many) people went there.
3. His  biggest  (big) wish is to return home.
4. Russia is  the biggest  (big) country in the world.
5. The weather in Delhi is  hotter  (hot) than Bangalore.

5. Write a letter to your uncle to thank him for the gift he sent to you.
